Menopause and the Brain

We know that estrogen declines with menopause. But did you know that this decline in estrogen changes your brain?

Dr. Lisa Mosconi explores this in her book XX Brain as well as a recent article.

Our brains are changing. Our bodies are changing. Dr. Mosconi states that these neurological changes may be responsible for some menopausal symptoms, including hot flashes, mood disruption and a mild, usually temporary decline in memory and cognition. 

But remember they tend to stabilize after the menopause transition. This too shall pass as they say…

And a few lifestyle changes in midlife, including quitting smoking, reducing alcohol intake, exercising consistently, maintaining sleeping better and remaining mentally and socially active, can help.
